Norma Todd - President

Norma Todd, DON at SunBridge Pinelodge Care and Rehabilitation in Beckley,WV. Her career in nursing began as a CNA, LPN and eventually as an RN. She is certified as a Gerontological Nurse from ANCC and as a DON through NADONA/LTC. She is a member of Fellowship in NADONA/LTC Academy of Fellows. She has worked as a Director of Education in LTC as well as a Staff Nurse. She is also educated as a paralegal. Norma has been a member of NADONA and WVADONA since 1991. She has served as Vice President of WVADONA for four years and was elected President in 2000. Norma was selected as the DON of the year for SunBridge Healthcare Company for the WV/KY Region, in 1999 and 2000, the WV Nursing Administrator of the year by WVADONA in 1996, and the 2000 Nursing Administrator for the Southeast Region through NADONA.

Sherri Snyder - Vice President

Sherri Snyder DON at Hopemont Hospital located in Terra Alta, near the Maryland border. Hopemont is a state operated Long Term Care facility specializing in challenging behaviors. Sherri started in the health field as a Candy Striper and Nursing Assistant. She pursued her nursing degree at WVU where she was inducted into the nursing honorary Sigma Theta Tau and graduated Magma Cum Laude. After graduation she returned to Hopemont Hospital as a staff RN. She served in several positions at the hospital over the years, including Infection Control Nurse, Staff Development Nurse, Resident Care Coordinator and Assistant DON and has served as DON since 1991. She continued her academic studies at WVU and completed a masters degree in nursing in may 1997, she was honored as WVADONA Nursing Administrator of the Year in 1998. Sherri states "NADONA has inspired me with new ideas and keeps me abreast of the most recent issues in LTC. One of the most encouraging aspects of WVADONA is that you find you are not alone and other DON's not only identify with your problems but can offer solutions that they have had success with. The workshops at the state convention are very information, but the informal networking that occurs is just as helpful. To succeed in this field you need a support group and WVADONA provides such a network".

Karen Teagarden - Treasurer

Karen Teagarden, DON at the United Transitional Care Center a Hospital Based Skilled Nursing Facility at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg, WV. Her career began in the health care field in 1975 as a Geriatric Nursing Assistant. She graduated from the School of Practical Nursing in 1977. She worked as a LPN Staff Nurse in Coronary Care and Intensive Care at St. Joseph Hospital. She also worked on surgical and orthopedic units. She graduated from Salem College in 1986 with a degree in Associate of Applied Science in Nursing. She was Assistant Director of Nursing at Americare-Salem and then Director of Nursing at Americare-Morgantown and presently is DON at United Transitional Care Center. She is responsible for providing a sub-acute level of skilled nursing care. She is certified as a DON from NADONA since 1989 and as a Gerontological Nurse by ANCC since 1993. She is Certified as a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Instructor since 1992 and has been a member of NADONA and WVADONA since 1987. She has been an officer in WVADONA since 1990, Karen was recognized as having met all requirements of Fellowship in NADONA/Long Term Care Academy of Fellows. She will graduate in July of 2002 with her Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Leadership Management and Development.

Loretta Long graduated in 1953 from Laird Memorial Hospital a three-year diploma-nursing program. Upon graduation Loretta worked at Montgomery General Hospital where she retired after fifty years service. She is working in the Capacity of Charge Nurse, Emergency Room Supervisor and DONA of the Skilled Extended Care Unit. Then she worked as a DON at Montgomery General Elderly Care and for two years as their Administrator. She received her BSN degree in 1988 from West Virginia Tech. She completed all requirements and successfully passed the state and national test to receive her license as Nursing Home Administrator in 1995. She was the first nurse to receive the honor and award as the Nursing Administrator of the year in the WV chapter of NADONA. In her spare time Loretta helped in the development of the Fayette County School of Practical Nursing and she is certified as a CNA and CPR instructor. Loretta has been a member of NADONA and WVADONA since 1991 and presently serves in the capacity of secretary. Her latest endeavor is working as a Nurse Consultant and Acting as a mentor of WVADONA members.
